Diana Sousa
Cancer Drug Resistance
Collaborator
Diana Sousa completed a First Degree in Biochemistry at the Advanced Institute of Health Sciences North, Portugal, in 2009. Dianas scientific activity was initiated during the final year of her undergraduate studies, when she carried out her curricular internship at the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). She subsequently completed a Masters Degree in Molecular Genetics from the School of Sciences - University of Minho, under the supervision of Prof. Doutora Alexandra Gouveia and co-supervision of Prof. Doutor Henrique Almeida, at the Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology of FMUP. In 2011 Diana was selected for a research fellowship (BI) to work on a project entitled Molecular and nanotecchnology-based approaches to improve the antitumor activity of small molecules, carried out at IPATIMUP under the supervision of Prof. Doutora M. Helena Vasconcelos, which was followed by another research fellowship to work on the project Microenvironment, metabolism and cancer. Currently, Diana is a PhD student from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto carrying out her research work at IPATIMUP/i3S, supported by an FCT grant (SFRH/BD/98054/2013), under the supervision of Prof. Doutora M. Helena Vasconcelos and co-supervision of Doutora Raquel T. Lima. Dianas research activity focuses on understanding the interactions between P-glycoprotein and microRNAs in the intercellular transfer of cancer drug resistance by extracellular vesicles. Recently, Diana was awarded a GEIVEX mobility fellowship to work at CIC bioGUNE (Bilbao, Spain) for three months. Diana has published 15 peer reviewed publications and has presented her work in national and international meetings.
